About Us

We (Ed and Kate Nichols) have owned and run Hillcrest Park since March 2011. We started with three cottages and a few touring pitches, but over time we have gradually expanded and we now have five holiday cottages, 20 touring pitches and 10 glamping pods.

We are located right on the border of North Yorkshire and County Durham between Richmond and Barnard Castle in one of the northernmost of the Dales, Teesdale, with the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) on our doorstep.

The area is something of a hidden gem, offering much to see and do close by - take a look at our Local Attractions page.

We are also within easy reach of the North Yorkshire Moors, The Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire coast. We surrounded by farmland and blessed with beautiful views over Teesdale and are just a short walk from the River Tees and the Teesdale Way.

As dog lovers ourselves, we think it is important that all the family enjoy their holiday together so all of our accommodation is dog friendly, and we have a large field on site in which you can let your dog (and the kids!) run around.

We have a small shop onsite selling the basics; milk, eggs, bread, local produce as well as a few camping essentials, in case you forget anything.

Our communal campers' kitchen has kettles, toasters, microwaves, hotplates, sink and fridge as well as a basic supply of cutlery, crockery, pots and pans - again, just in case you left something crucial behind!

So, whether you want the comforts of a cottage, somewhere to bring your own caravan or fancy giving glamping a try we aim to offer all our guests a peaceful setting and a warm welcome.

Hillcrest Park is our home as well as our business, so we are usually around if you need any help, but are happy to let you enjoy your holiday in peace.

Site Plan

Site Rules

As this is a family-run site, we prefer to keep things informal. However, as a guide for our guests we have produced the following basic Site Rules by which we would appreciate you abide.

  1. Check in times are: 2pm for glamping pods and 3pm for holiday cottages, and check out times are 11am for pods and 10am for cottages. Pitches are available from 1.30pm.
  2. Tranquillity is a major attraction of the site therefore we kindly request that noise levels are kept to a minimum after 10pm and complete quiet after midnight.
  3. Smoking, cooking or open fires are not permitted in the Pods. Nor should any hot items be placed on the timber decking. BBQs are allowed on the hardstanding provided. The electric sockets may be used for mobile phones, laptops and travel appliances but not ordinary domestic appliances.
  4. Please keep to designated public footpaths or highways when out walking. It is considered trespass if you enter privately owned land without permission.
  5. Please do not use household appliances in caravans. Any unsuitable electrical appliances used inside an outfit may make it unsafe and illegal.
  6. Gas heaters only to be used in awnings.
  7. Dogs should be kept under control at all times and, out of consideration for other site users, dog dirt must be cleared from both the site and the field.
  8. No ball games amongst the caravans. Please use the field instead. But be aware this is also a dog walking area, with associated perils!
  9. Only one car per pitch, unless by prior agreement with us.
  10. For fire safety reasons, we need to know how many people are on site so if you are expecting visitors, please notify us beforehand.
  11. Please use breathable groundsheets in your awnings, in order to preserve the grass for other users.
  12. Please use the chemical disposal points provided. However, disposable nappies and other bulky items should be wrapped and placed in the bins provided. Greywater may be put in the chemical disposal.
  13. The site bins are only for waste generated on site.
  14. Please familiarise yourself with the fire safety installations around the site, in case of the unlikely event of a fire.
  15. Finally, we reserve the right to ask any guests to leave if we believe their conduct is not in the spirit of the Site Rules.

Thank you for your cooperation, Ed and Kate
